Lipomas are benign tumors composed of fatty tissue that develop beneath the skin. They typically have a soft consistency, move easily under the skin when palpated, and grow slowly over time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They can appear in various areas of the body, most commonly on the trunk, shoulders, neck, back, and limbs. Although most lipomas do not cause problems, they can sometimes increase in size, cause discomfort or pain, restrict movement, or lead to aesthetic dissatisfaction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Surgical excision is the most effective treatment, particularly when the lipoma is growing, causing symptoms, or requires histological evaluation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the visit, a clinical examination of the area will take place, and a complete medical history will be obtained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In some cases, imaging studies, such as an ultrasound or an MRI, may be required, particularly when the mass is deeper or larger in size.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Depending on the size and location of the lipoma, the procedure is performed either in the fully equipped surgical facility of our clinic in Heraklion or in a private clinic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The procedure is performed through a small incision over the lipoma site, allowing for the complete removal of the lesion along with its surrounding capsule. Removing the capsule helps reduce the likelihood of recurrence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following removal, the specimen is typically sent for histological examination (biopsy) to confirm the diagnosis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Subsequently, careful closure of the wound is performed, aiming for the best possible aesthetic result.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In most cases, the operation is performed under local anesthesia and lasts approximately 20\u201360 minutes, depending on the size and location of the lipoma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hospitalization is typically not required, and the patient returns home on the same day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As with any surgical procedure, there are potential risks and complications, although they are relatively rare. Potential complications include infection, bleeding, hematoma, delayed healing, minor asymmetries, or changes in local sensation. In some cases, recurrence of the lesion may also be observed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
