A sebaceous cyst is a common, benign lesion that develops beneath the skin due to the blockage of sebaceous glands or hair follicles. It typically appears as a round, movable lump under the skin and can develop in various areas of the body, such as the scalp, face, neck, back, or trunk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Although most cysts do not cause problems, some may increase in size, cause discomfort, become inflamed, or get infected. In these cases, as well as for aesthetic reasons, surgical excision may be recommended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Complete removal of the cyst along with its wall constitutes the most effective treatment and helps reduce the likelihood of recurrence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The procedure is performed through a small incision over the cyst site, allowing for the complete removal of the lesion along with its wall. Complete removal is crucial, as it reduces the likelihood of the cyst recurring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In cases of active inflammation or infection, management of the inflammation may be required initially, and the definitive excision will be performed at a later stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Subsequently, careful closure of the wound is performed, aiming for the best possible aesthetic result.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In most cases, the operation is performed under local anesthesia and lasts approximately 20\u201345 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hospitalization is not required, and the patient returns home on the same day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As with any surgical procedure, there are potential risks and complications, although they occur relatively rarely. Potential complications include infection, bleeding, hematoma, delayed healing, minor asymmetries, or changes in local sensation.
