Masculinizing chest reconstruction, also known as Top Surgery, is a surgical procedure aimed at creating a flat and masculine chest through the removal of breast tissue and chest contouring.

The procedure is designed for individuals seeking to align their physical characteristics with their gender identity or to reduce breast volume for aesthetic and functional reasons. The result is permanent, natural-looking, and personalized.

Consultation Session

During your initial visit, a detailed evaluation of your chest anatomy, skin, and breast tissue is performed. Your goals, expectations, and the available surgical techniques are thoroughly discussed.

The surgical options, along with potential complications and the postoperative recovery timeline, are presented in detail to ensure a fully informed decision.

How the Procedure is Performed

Before the surgery, markings are made on the chest while standing, and photographs are taken for medical documentation.

The procedure involves the removal of the mammary gland and, where necessary, liposuction for improved definition of the pectoral contour. In cases of significant skin laxity, excess skin is also removed to achieve a flat appearance.

The placement of incisions depends on your anatomy and the chosen technique, aiming for the most discreet scars possible and a natural aesthetic outcome.

Surgical drains are typically placed at the end of the procedure and are removed over the following days, depending on your recovery progress.

Anesthesia & Hospital Stay

The surgery is performed under general anesthesia and typically requires an overnight stay at the clinic.

Associated Risks in Masculinizing Chest Reconstruction

As with any surgical procedure, there are potential risks, including bleeding, infection, fluid accumulation (seroma/hematoma), or asymmetry. Changes in the sensitivity of the nipple area may also occur, which are usually temporary but can, in some cases, be permanent.

Frequently Asked Questions

What to expect after the surgery?

After the procedure, it is normal to experience swelling, a feeling of pressure, and mild discomfort in the chest area. The use of a special compression vest is required for approximately 6 weeks. Showering is typically permitted after 48 hours, in accordance with the doctor’s instructions, while returning to light activities happens gradually within the first few days.

Will it leave scars?

The scars depend on the technique used and each individual’s anatomy. They are strategically placed to be as inconspicuous as possible.

Over time, their color and texture improve significantly, and they become less noticeable.

How long does it take to return to my normal life?

Most patients return to daily activities within 1 to 2 weeks, depending on their recovery progress. Strenuous physical exercise is typically permitted after 6 weeks, while full recovery continues gradually over several months.
