Liposuction, also known as liposculpture, is one of the most effective cosmetic procedures for improving body contour. Its goal is to remove localized fat from areas that do not respond to diet and physical exercise, offering a more harmonious and well-shaped result.

In modern cosmetic surgery, liposculpture is not limited to fat removal; it focuses on overall body reshaping, highlighting its natural lines. It is important to note that it is not a weight loss method or an obesity treatment, but rather a tool for body contour improvement.

Consultation Session

During the first visit, a detailed evaluation of the areas that concern you, as well as your general physical condition, takes place. Your goals and expectations are discussed, while the appropriate treatment plan is proposed.

The surgeon will explain which areas can be improved, what outcome is realistic, and which technique is best suited for your case.

Target Areas

Liposuction can be applied to almost any part of the body where there is fat accumulation.

  • Abdomen
  • Flanks
  • Thighs (inner & outer surface)
  • Hips (“saddlebags”)
  • Knees
  • Arms
  • Back
  • Calves
  • Waist (“love handles”)
  • Chest (e.g., gynecomastia in men)
  • Neck and chin

How the Procedure is Performed

Liposuction is performed through very small incisions of a few millimeters, which are placed in natural folds and are not visible after healing. Initially, a special solution is injected to reduce bruising, prevent bleeding, and numb the area. Then, using thin, specialized tubes (cannulas), the fat is removed with precision and uniformity, sculpting the body contour.

Anesthesia & Duration

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia combined with sedation (twilight anesthesia) or under general anesthesia, within an organized and safe operating room environment. Its duration varies depending on the number of areas and the amount of fat to be removed.

Hospitalization Duration

In most cases, an overnight stay is not required. The patient can return home a few hours after the procedure.

Postoperative Period

After the procedure, the use of a special compression garment (corset) is necessary for approximately 3–4 weeks.

It is normal to experience mild swelling and bruising, which gradually subside within 2–3 weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What to expect after the procedure?

Mobilization begins immediately and is especially important for a smooth recovery. You can take a shower starting the next day, avoiding prolonged exposure to water for the first few days. Most daily activities resume quickly, while returning to work is usually possible within 2–3 days, depending on its nature.

Results

The initial results are visible almost immediately; however, the final outcome is shaped gradually over the following months as the swelling subsides.

The result is long-lasting, provided that a stable weight and a healthy lifestyle are maintained.

Related Risks

Liposuction is a safe procedure when performed by a qualified plastic surgeon.

Potential but rare complications include bleeding, infection, and contour irregularities. With the proper technique and appropriate postoperative care, these risks are significantly minimized.

How long do the results last?

The removed fat cells do not return. However, significant weight gain can affect the overall outcome. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is crucial for long-term preservation of the results.
