Gynecomastia (Male Breast Reduction)

Contact us for a diagnostic appointment.

Gynecomastia is the excessive development of breast tissue in men and can be caused by hormonal changes, medication, or weight gain. Surgical treatment for gynecomastia offers a permanent and natural result. The procedure removes excess fat and glandular tissue, restoring a flat and masculine contour to the chest.

Consultation Session

During your initial consultation visit, the surgeon will evaluate whether you are a suitable candidate for the procedure through a detailed clinical examination, which includes measuring your chest dimensions. It is important to know that asymmetry between the breasts is completely normal and, in some cases, may persist after surgery. The degree of gynecomastia will influence the choice of technique. During the discussion, all available options will be presented, along with the most appropriate recommendation, as well as comprehensive information regarding potential risks and complications that may arise.

How the Procedure is Performed

Before the surgery, specific markings will be made, and photographs will be taken for medical documentation. Initially, excess fat is removed via liposuction, and immediately after, the hypertrophic mammary gland is excised through a discreet incision near the nipple. At the end of the procedure, surgical drains are placed in the breasts to remove fluids. These are typically removed before your discharge from the clinic the following day.

Associated Risks in Gynecomastia Surgery

The most common complications are postoperative bleeding and infection. After surgery, nipple sensitivity may temporarily change—either decreasing or increasing—but it usually returns to normal over time.

Frequently Asked Questions

What to expect after the surgery?

Immediately after the surgery, you will feel a slight pressure in your chest. Your skin will adjust to the new shape and the initial swelling will subside within a few days, at which point this sensation will disappear. You can take a shower starting two days after the procedure, but you must be careful not to remove the waterproof tape covering the incisions until your follow-up examination at the clinic. You will need to wear the compression vest provided to you, day and night, for 6 weeks.

Will it leave scars?

If glandular excision is required in addition to liposuction, the scars will be located around the lower half of the areola. The scars are usually more prominent during the first few months; however, with proper care, their thickness and color gradually decrease within a few months, and they become less noticeable.

How long does it take to return to my normal life?

Most patients return to mild daily activities within the first few days after surgery, while some may return to work after about one week, depending on the demands of their job. However, it usually takes about two weeks to reach this level of functionality. Sports activities can be resumed, on average, after 6 weeks. It is important to listen to your body: pain serves as a protective sign, so if certain movements cause discomfort, it is best to avoid them. In the following months, swelling gradually decreases, but sleeping on your stomach may still cause discomfort for some time. Additionally, sudden movements may cause momentary discomfort, which will become increasingly rare over time. Full recovery is typically complete in about one year.
